0:00 In this video we’ll explain what AdWords tagging is and how you can use it to measure the success of your AdWords campaigns.

0:08 Counting the number of clicks that your ads get is one way of measuring the success of your campaigns, but just counting clicks alone won’t give you the full picture.

0:16 Say for example that your business objective is to get visitors to sign up for a newsletter, make an online purchase, or download a file from your website. We call these kind of valuable business actions “conversions”.

0:29 Not every ad click is going to lead to a conversion, so if we just measure clicks alone you’re not accurately measuring your success.

To track these conversions more accurately we can use a technique called “tagging”.

0:42 Tagging lets AdWords know when a visitor to your website has made a conversion.

You may have heard of tagging being referred to using other names like pixels, 1x1s or beacons. Don’t worry - these are all the same thing.

0:57 The tags themselves are little snippets of HTML & Javascript automatically generated for you by AdWords.

1:10 You put the tag on the pages of your site where you would like to track your visitors actions.

For example to track an online purchase, you would place the AdWords Conversion Tracking tag on the purchase complete page of your website.

1:23 Now when any of your visitors convert their browser will automatically load the AdWords Conversion tag.

This lets AdWords know that a conversion happened on your site.

1:32 Don’t worry about matching conversions to ad clicks - this is all handled automatically by AdWords so only conversions by users who have viewed or clicked your ad are counted.

1:43 As well as measuring conversions, AdWords can also use tagging to generate remarketing lists.

You can use remarketing lists to re-engage your website visitors with ads, even after they've left your site.

1:56 Google is firmly committed to the privacy of our advertisers and users.

To this end, we make the security and confidentiality of user’s information our highest priority.

2:06 You should never attempt to collect or store user’s personal information - for example email addresses or names - using AdWords conversion or remarketing tags.

2:17 Now that you know all about tagging log in to your AdWords account to get started.
