Is 21st Century Towing truly the masters of sleaze and should-be-illegal activities? Well, when we take the time to dig into their online footprint, the information publicly available about them for anyone, including their "customers" and victims alike to access, the reviews, discoveries of them paying Google to remove their headquarters location in North Portland (which the only phone number existent for the company goes back to) and from their search results as well as maps, and thus the reviews for it along with it, and my own personal experience dealing with them first hand, the answer I believe becomes abundantly clear. And the answer is a resounding YES.
- Predatory practices from the point of contracting with apartment complexes, point-of-tow, to how they conduct business and where, so on.
- Specific, methodical targeting of low-income and Spanish speaking people.
- Weeks-long delays and even outright non-compliance with registering the towing of a person's vehicle into the police's tow registry.
- Damaging of vehicles.
- Careless and wreckless habits when unloading vehicles into their garage and tow yards.
- Infamously unprofessional, antagonistic and aggressive attitudes.
- Reputation for using their legal lock-picking tools to get into victim's cars and remove parking permits to "prove" they didn't have a permit to park legally, and/or to steal from the vehicles and claim later that "they vehicle had nothing in it when we towed it".
- Intentional towing to distant locations in order to attempt to increase the price of the ransom to get your car back
- Even more.
With this video, I genuinely hope that it can be shared enough and spread around to add awareness and cause a formation of a very vocal, active group here in Oregon that will not only move to force the state to shut down companies like this one, and even more so to force the state's towing regulation commission to take their jobs much more seriously, and get far more aggressive with the policing, watching and enforcement of laws and rules that clearly and concisely explain in common language (not legalese) what can and cannot be done by a tow company. We clearly need this and far more harsh penalties against the practices of these companies, and of course, of careless apartment management companies alike. Something HAS to change, and the only way it does is with strong, growing and very loud, confident civilian action and pressure. So I highly encourage you to share this around, whether in person, on social media, in forums, groups, text, etc, so we can finally do something about this issue once and for all.
