Ionic - Lecture 1 - Basic Theory

Ionic is a wrapper over Cordova/Capacitor.
Cordova/Capacitor packs a web application into native app (APK on Android, IPA on iOS and EXE on windows).
Cordova/Capacitor also provides a runtime to these apps when they run on the mobile/desktop platforms.
In addition to what Cordova/Capacitor do, Ionic simply provides a library of components which you can use. While converting to the native app, these components get proper styles as per the UI guidelines of the respective platfroms.

Ionic allows you to make your website using Angular/React/Vue/plain-javascript.

PhoneGap led to the development of Cordova.
Cordova led to the development of Capacitor.
Presently, Ionic advices you to use Capacitor.
