I really enjoy playing beat em up games, but when it comes to player vs player I am useless and literally there to be battered, doesn't ruin my enjoyment just makes those odd little victories even better to savour.
Ironlights is much more tactical, it is more strategy than it is a button mash and you really have to think about what you are going to do.
The game already looks highly polished, arenas look good, you and your opponents platforms are elevated up to the centre of the arena and your weapon, based on the class you have chosen, flies into your hand, the counter counts down from 3 and battle commences.
you take it in turns to attack, which forces the other to defend, each strike breaks your weapon and you have to recharge it by swinging it your weapon behind you, a block will also shatter your weapon and it needs recharging the same. You can recharge your energy by pressing the A & X button, you also have a special move by pulling the trigger and swinging down that fires at the opposition.
As the battle progresses you try to wear each others energy bar down, which limits the length of time you can attack. You can pull yourself towards the enemy to attack and then push away to restore energy and get ready to defend. The games mechanics are clever, if you try to swing fast, the weapon will not keep up and therefore timing will be lost and little or no damage caused, time it right and you will deal great damage, this will mean that those thinking they can just wave the controllers about will likely lose fights very quickly without understanding why.
So far I have only delved into the Knight class which wields a huge two handed sword, the game seems simple in concept, but to master I can see being one of great skill.
The game is available through kickstarter and already gearing up towards being another must own game for the quest.
