The Tampa Bay Lightning have been good. They've defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets in five games in their first round 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs matchup, they dethroned the Presidents Trophy Boston Bruins in five games in the second round, and they took a commanding 2-0 series lead over the New York Islanders in the Eastern Conference Finals earlier yesterday.
However, they did it all without their captain Steven Stamkos; their franchise centreman whose value to the team appears tremendous, until you realize that the team doesn't actually need him to win.
This is all coming off of the back of Brayden Point; one of the top prospects at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, and a guy who has taken over the Lightning by storm. He's currently the highest scoring active point producer in the entire Playoffs, and has shown a completely new gear as a hockey player.
With this in mind, as well as acknowledging the Lightning's salary cap problems, is it time to trade Steven Stamkos, and give the keys to Brayden Point as the team's number one centre?
