Most people who were into Sid Meier's Colonization when the remake was made were pretty sorely disappointed when it arrived. But is this game actually awful and deserving of the hatred and disappointment it received? I'm going to play through it on Revolutionary difficulty, the highest difficulty, while discussing the game, its downfalls, and its upsides, as a huge fan of the Colonization series and a fan that was also quite let down when Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Colonization shipped.

In my opinion, Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Colonization isn't really as bad as people make it out to be, but it's not an amazing game either like Sid Meier's Colonization was back in the day to child me. It does have some improvements that I'll be discussing as well as the game progresses.

For background, it is 1492. We cross the Atlantic as theDutch, seeking gold, glory, and a path to India. Instead, we discover a New World full of native riches, native peoples, and foreign European competitors. Will we found a colony that will thrive and eventually throw off the shackles of the Old World, embracing the new, or flounder and succumb to destruction during this edited let's play?

Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Colonization concerns itself with exploring the New World, establishing colonies, working the land, turning raw goods into manufactured products to sell back in Europe, competing with other Europeans for valuable land primarily by flexing the military, dealing with the Native peoples whether peacefully or militarily, and finally declaring your colonies to be a newly formed Nation, independent from their old, repressive sovereign.
