Is this Dungeon Master SUFFERING from DM Madness| GM 911
Original GM 911 Post
Hi Folks,
Brief Into: I ran a homebrew 3.5 in college, and only got back into D&D two years ago running 5e starter set. That one took us over 50 games to run its course and we spent this summer playing Blades in the Dark for a break. I also spent the time reading up on games like DeadLands 20th Anniversary.
Where the Problem Starts: I'm going to run my group into Curse of Strahd, and I've been busying myself creating game mechanics to introduce. Porting over the Stress Bar from Blades (which allows useful actions and ties a characters flaw to a mechanic instead of just an rp element), as well as the Scart Table and Mysterious Past from DeadLands. Ontop of it all, I'm hoping to create a one shot opening in the past using characters whose decedents the PCs may meet in game.
The Question Itself: Am I doing too much?
I'm still a Jr DM and I want to really bring some cool stuff in, esp. for my first ever horror-themed game. Work is almost done, but I get the feeling I'm running myself ragged before the game even starts. Even as I type this I realize I should cut back (will probably keep the Mysterious Past bits bc I tied it to the Tarokka Deck that goes with CoS), but I wanted a second opinion.
Thanks,
Sparkus
