As always, while the Ubuntu community is still starting to use the recently released Ubuntu 22.04 operating system, Canonical has already started a new development cycle.

It's that time of year again when Canonical kicks off the development cycle of the next major Ubuntu Linux release, in this case Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu), and daily builds are now available for download.

Dubbed Kinetic Kudu, Ubuntu 22.10 is scheduled to be released later this year on October 20, 2022, and Canonical's Brian Murray announced in late April that Ubuntu 22.10 is officially open for development.

And now, Canonical has published the first daily build ISO images for Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu), inviting early adopters and app developers interested in testing the next version to find and report bugs.

In addition to the Ubuntu Desktop and Server flavors, you'll also find daily builds for the official Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Ubuntu MATE flavors, which you can grab right now from the download server.
In addition, you can also download the pre-installed Ubuntu desktop image for Raspberry Pi ARM64 here.

Of course, when testing these daily build images, you should always keep in mind that they are based on the previous version of Ubuntu, in this case Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish).

This means that they will launch with pretty much the same visual and hidden changes until the beta release.

During the six-month development cycle, these components will be updated to newer versions, but it's too early to say what final software versions Ubuntu 22.10 will ship with.

One thing is for sure, namely the fact that the desktop environment will be based on the upcoming GNOME 43 release which is due out on September 21, 2022.

Possibly Ubuntu 22.10 should also be released with the Linux 5.19 kernel series, slated for late July or early August.

This will give Ubuntu developers enough time to test it on various hardware until the “Kernel Freeze” development stage on October 6th.

I know Linux kernel 5.20 will be released in early October, but there won't be enough room for tests to be included in Kinetic Kudu.

If you want to keep up with the development of Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu) and be the first to discover its biggest new features and improvements, just keep an eye on the Blog as I will be posting its major changes until the final release on October 20, 2022.

Download and try Ubuntu 22.10 Daily Build
You can download the first Ubuntu 22.10 daily build ISO images right now directly from Canonical's servers . Daily ISO images are available for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Kylin and Ubuntu Budgie flavors.

Once again, we remind you that these are pre-release versions of Ubuntu 22.10 and are therefore not recommended for production use.
