In the dead of January 1998, our protagonist returns to his childhood apartment—a barren shell frozen in time—only a year after his parents’ tragic deaths. What was meant to be a simple trip to prep the flat for sale turns into a chilling descent into his own past: the car breaks down, cutting him off from the outside world, and as he makes his way through the empty corridors, each room echoes with haunting memories.

Armed with nothing but a candle and a flickering hope, he ventures through the snow-swathed courtyard and across dimly lit Soviet-era stairwells. Strange glowing metal plates scattered around hint at something supernatural, or perhaps just the fractured fragments of his own tortured mind.

Back inside, he meets his childhood friend—now twisted, lurking in shadows—who blames him for a horrific act committed decades ago. To borrow a car battery charger, he must play a twisted game of scavenging chips, as truths unravel under the weight of grief. Throughout the claustrophobic halls and empty rooms, he’s tormented by whispered voices, crawling silhouettes, and eerie past events—and all while digging through old furniture for a camera to photograph the apartment for sale.

Against the backdrop of winter’s icy grip and Soviet-era neglect, Winter Shadows is a psychological horror journey about grief, betrayal, and the fraying edge between reality and memory. Every cracked wall and dead-end corridor pushes the protagonist closer to the truth behind his parents’ deaths—and closer to his own breaking point.
