Society of the Snow 2023 Review
The Spaniard's remarkable filmography gave us hope, and the high ratings for 'The Snow Society' (7.6 from viewers and 7.8 from critics) increased our expectations. However, after reading the description, I felt the movie might not be for me. It's not because it's poorly made, but because it retells the true story of a Uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the mountains in 1972. They survived miraculously while the rescue operation was underway, and no one was looking for them.
Are you all really so young that you don't know about classic '90s world cinema, like 'Alive' (1992) with a young Ethan Hawke directed by Frank Marshall? It used to be averry popular movie. Around the anniversary of the tragedy, documentaries about the Uruguayan catastrophe aired, followed by 'Alive.' Why? Because it's an incredible story of the will to live and... cannibalism. No other cases in history involve survivors admitting to eating their friends openly. Would you act differently? Eat a friend or face death in the mountains? I would do the same to keep living my boring life.
'So, "The Snow Society" is a direct remake or retelling of the real 1972 story. There are no deviations from the plot of the movie "Alive." Everything is exactly the same, only filmed with modern technologies that allowed for a more impressive portrayal of the plane crash.
