Saves about a half second over hitting them one at a time. You might expect more, but the boomerang doesnt do the full curve return path when you hit them one at a time. The sidebar instructions are pasted below:

Two rolls forward, not fully spaced out so that you end just outside of the range where the left platform starts wiggling

Upleftish flick to aim a bit left of the center diagonal of the left platform

Throw boomerang, then strafe a bit right to bait the rang's return path
