Thank you for checking out my Jade Cocoon Review!

Jade Cocoon was released in North America on July 27th 1999. It was developed by genki, a studio known for releasing games of many genres but most notably known for its racing games as well as Kengo, a fighting games series considered a spiritual successor to bushido blade. Localization was taken care of by Crave Entertainment who assisted in localizing a rather large list of games from that era.

One of the more interesting and standout aspects of Jade cocoons development was Genkis Collaboration with Katsuya Konda Character designer from that's right Studio Ghibli! The art of Jade Cocoon cocoon is absolutely hands down top notch. It really feels like you're playing a blockbuster AAA title but in reality Jade Cocoon is one of many JRPGs that has been lost to time.

There is a lesser known entry into the series called Jade Cocoon Gaiden that was released in 1999 for mobile phones. Jade cocoon Gaiden takes place directly after the events of the first game.

Jade coccoon follows the story of the village of Syrus a small settlement built on a hillside with a cliff to its back and walls protecting its approach. A large festival takes place one day which comes to an abrupt end when a swarm of locust like monsters known as the onibubu attacks the village making several villagers fall into a deep sleep.

Later that night the village elders meet and determine that it is time to choose a new cocoon master. It is decided that the son of their previous cocoon master, levant has become old enough to follow in his fathers foot footsteps and they task him with venturing into the forest in search of the Calabasas herb which is rumored to awaken people from deep slumbers.

I first played Jade Cocoon back in 2002 when my uncle passed away and me and my family packed up in a van and made a cross country road trip for his funeral. We ended up staying for a few weeks at a hotel and I had the chance to connect with one of my older cousins that I barely knew. (A curse of being from a large family)
