The Penn State White Team defeated the Blue Team defeated the Blue team during the Blue-White Game on Saturday. Head coach James Franklin spoke with the media after the team's final spring practice. Despite the windy weather, the White Team offense, which consisted mostly of starters, threw the ball often. Starting quarterback Drew Allar completed 15 of 32 passes (47%), but averaged 14.9 yards per pass, racking up 209 yards and a touchdown in the game. His lone touchdown of the day came during the final two-minute drill of the afternoon, where he found a wide-open Andrew Rappleyea for a 30-yard strike in the secondary.
Allar also tossed a 30-yard completion to Kaden Saunders near the end of the first quarter.
Absences play a key part of offensive performance
The team was without a slew of key contributors, especially on offense. Starting right tackle, Anthony Donkoh was dressed but didn't play; both star running backs Kaytron Allen, and Nick Singleton were on the sidelines for the day, as were guards JB Nelson and Sal Wormley.
Several Blue Team players stood out on the day despite the 27 offensive points they gave up. Transfer cornerback A.J. Harris gave up some receptions but ended the day with seven total tackles and a pass breakup.
However, the star of the day was slot corner Kolin Dinkins. the slot defender had a sack, a tackle for loss, four tackles and a would-be interception returned for an 80-yard touchdown. Dinkins stepped in front of late Beau Pribula pass in the red zone and intercepted the pass in the flat, taking it to the house. However, Pribula was ruled down for a sack before the pass.
I think Amin Vanover is a pretty cool story. I think he's going to have a really big year for us.
