JD Let's Talk - Media Outlets Must Stop Co-Opting Blizzard Hong Kong Controversy
After the fallout of the #freehongkong Blizzard controversy where they banned (then unbanned) Blitzchung before trying to save face by a few odd half-hearted apologies, media outlets have become fierce about the calling out of the company. However, in turn, they have exposed a horrible situation. They have claimed that they were the ones who first called out the issue Blizzard find themselves in, and in the face of a situation that has nearly unanimous support that transcends political party lines, they instead try to invoke ghosts of a certain past to issue purity tests on those that actually called out the problems first, and have been more than sincere in their approach. This is a call for those outlets who have been doing this to stop, and to warn a progressive advocacy group that following their lead and banning people for misunderstanding and conflating two different issues of said ghosts will only lead to the partisanship that will kill this one of a kind effort.
