I’m back in Cvstodia and starting to get a decent foothold, though the game certainly isn’t pulling any punches. Interestingly enough, the biggest challenges so far aren’t the bosses (of which I’ve encountered very few so far), but the traversal around the world. There’s lots of tricky platforming paired with downright difficult enemies and enemy placement.
I managed to get the ability to survive in the poison mist pretty late, along with the blood platforms, so I think there’s going to be at least a few more areas I can get to next session.
So far most of the movement abilities feel pretty constrained - for example rather than gaining a double-jump, the stab-into-wall jump can only be used on specific walls, and rather than a use-anywhere double-jump, the blood platforms only exist on specific areas. This makes the environment safer to design as you only have to pay attention to specific locations, but it also means you don’t have as much freedom to experiment and explore.
I’m having trouble getting a good grasp on the story - I think I’ll need to spend much more time reading through the enormous amount of text in the various items, collections, etc. Hopefully a lot of the vague references and descriptions of things come together as I read through the rest of it.
