This is a new style of video I'm testing out (also hi! it's been a while). This is the first in an experimental series where I improv with a fellow musician and we have only one shot with one cameraman. This really is the brain-child of the cameraman Caleb, who managed all videography aspects of the project. Also featured is percussionist Aaron; this was literally the first time playing this arrangement together, so virtually everything he did was improvised on the spot.

Since even the early years of working with video game music, the Wing Cap theme from Mario 64 (which in itself is an arrangement of the Starman theme from the original Super Mario Bros) has remained one of my favorite "jazz standards" to return to. At it's core, the song is literally just two chords back and forth: Dm7 and CMaj7. The simplicity of the song as well as the gorgeous tensions between the two chords opens the way for a lot of creative expression, giving way to fun and relatively easy improv sessions like this video!
