It really works out how right after Mario's 35th anniversary we get Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary, so just like how Mario's anniversary year gave me excuse to do a bunch of Mario covers, I similarly had an excuse to work on a couple Sonic themed covers. I'm not necessarily a devout fan of the Sonic franchise as a whole, but ever since I was a kid growing up during the "Adventure Era", the character of Sonic the Hedgehog, along with the handful of games I had access to (Adventure DX, Heroes, and randomly Sonic 3), has really stuck with me over the years.
Certain specific elements of the franchise trigger nostalgia for me, but ironically the soundtrack of Sonic 3 usually doesn't...not until recently, that is, as I was replying the game after nearly a decade of not touching it. When I reached my first special stage, I went in remembering how the bonus level worked, but what I didn't remember was the music. As I listened to the track that was completely new to me, I was dumbfounded with how musically incredible it was! Musically incredible tracks like this are scattered throughout the Adventure Era Sonic games I grew up playing, but rediscovering this track, this time not from any nostalgic memories, but rather from raw experience made me feel as if I were back in time playing the game when it first came out...a time before I even existed! I instantly knew this track would make for a great piano cover, and I'm very happy to finally share with you my interpretation of the piece!
