568In the world of Kaiju No. 8, Kaiju—literally meaning "Strange Beasts"—are mysterious, monstrous creatures that periodically emerge across the globe, particularly in Japan, attacking cities and wrecking havoc. They vary widely in size, appearance, and abilities.
To combat and assess Kaiju threats, the Defense Force assigns them a Fortitude Level, which quantifies the creature’s power and threat to humanity.
Kaiju are further categorized by their battlefield role. Yoju, or “Residual Beasts,” are smaller, lesser Kaiju that often accompany a larger entity. In contrast, the Honju, or “Main Beast,” is the central figure in any Kaiju outbreak. Daikaiju have existed since the Meireki era, marking them as ancient and significant threats to humanity. In addition to type and fortitude level, Kaiju are also classified by physical size.
The Albino Godzilla-like Kaiju in Kaiju No. 8 is seen to be a solitary Honju-class kaiju, a super giant class that emerges in a way very similar to Shin Godzilla but not showing any of the evolving patterns.
