Kali Linux xfce wil be much more faster, with the same apps and features.
Install xfce:
apt-get install kali-defaults kali-root-login desktop-base xfce4 xfce4-places-plugin xfce4-goodies

Remove xfce:
apt-get remove xfce4 xfce4-places-plugin xfce4-goodies

Set xfce as default desktop environment:
In terminal type:

update-alternatives --config x-session-manager

then select xfce (2 or 3). Reboot.
