Kali Linux isn't a Linux distro that I've ever had an interesting in running because it's a security and testing focused distro, however, a lot of people seem to be running it as a daily driver now. Recently the Kali Linux team decided that because more and more people are using the distro as a daily driver that they should change from using a default root user policy which is where everything done on the system is run as the root user to a more standard Linux security model.
