Katowice 2020 Playoffs Will Be Played Without Crowd (IEM News)
This is footage of the 2019 Katowice Major from last year (Astralis vs ENCE). The roar of the crowd is unquestionable, and plays such a vital role in Counter Strike, and in all live tournaments in general. It adds hype, and makes each play 1000 times better, especially when the crowd is really into it like in Katowice, and Australia. But sadly as you can read from the title, the Katowice 2020 playoffs will be played without a crowd this time around. This is due to the Sicilian governor revoking IEM’s event due to concerns with the Corona Virus, even though there hasn’t been any cases of the virus in Poland. All tickets are being refunded, and sadly it looks like we are going to have a really boring end to what usually is a really exciting event. Many fans and players are upset about the change, but they understand the concern. We have to feel for all those at IEM that have been working so hard to follow their trend of exciting tournaments each year, along with those fans that have traveled to see the teams play. While crowds can sometimes be exploited for information in the actually game, they are absolutely necessary for making these games hyped, and watchable.
