So this is how I made my first 100 000k Cats in mid game. It's very simple, yet complex at the same time. When you have at least 7-10 recruits with respective attack and defense leveled up, then you can build an Outpost near the Hive base north of Squin and West of The Hub.

You can't go there at start, you will get one shot kill. I tried. Trust me :)

However, if you do succeed, that's when the money will start to roll. Thereafter, you can start buying better gear, recruiting more people... building a bigger base ( or more outpost else where ). And perhaps, try to invade other factions if that suits you :)
