We finally have a boss where Riku can show off his abilities better. You fight Vexen much earlier in Riku's story then you do as Sora but honestly, I actually find this version harder. Not in terms of how strong he is but in terms of how tough he is to fight. He is similar to the first time you fought him in Sora's story but there is one key difference. Here Vexen has an entirely new sleight Diamond Dust which covers the field in a blizzard and damages you over time. This attack makes it really annoying to No Damage unless you are lucky and he does it when you have quick access to your zero. I won't lie, I got extremely lucky in this fight. I was lucky enough to have a zero Mickey card to break Diamond Dust and stun him for some easy damage, but after that I horribly misplayed and left him with 1HP when I could have killed him. After that I got lucky again and managed to blind play my zero in midair to break the Ice Needles and take him out.

Castle Oblivion's deck is one of the best in the game, its starts with a two sets of 8-7-6, then two sets of 5-4-3, two 0s, three sets of 9-7-4 and then three 9s all in a row followed by a Hi Potion. Remember this deck closely because you will be using it a few times throughout the game and it suffers from one major flaw in most of those times. That problem... NO SHORTCUTS! Re:Chain of Memories has a feature that lets you set a card in your deck as a shortcut that you can jump to. You can do this all the time with your reload card but you can set this as a second card. In Sora's story it was not highly necessary since you could just put all your zeroes in an easy to get to location plus you have to charge your deck. With Riku this is much more useful for quickly reloading your deck and getting back to the good part of the deck. There is a problem though, every time your deck changes with Riku, you lose your shortcut. This means that for every "Hallway" boss fight in Riku's story you can't set any shortcuts since they reset the moment you leave the world and enter what the game classifies as Castle Oblivion. This is an awful problem with this deck in particular because your only zeroes are buried in the middle of your deck so there are times where after a reload you have to hold the L or R buttons to blindly move to your zeroes and pray that you play it.

The strategy for this boss is as follows, rapid-break his cards and get Dark Mode as soon as possible. When he plays a card, break it and get in a full combo. Be careful of the two-hit swipe because the icicle has a lingering hit box that can hit you even if you break it. The icicle throw and Freeze sleight are basically undodgable with Dark Riku so you need to break them.

Topic of the video: "Dark Jump Dash"
Normal Riku has a dodge roll similar to Sora except the animation is longer and the invincibility frames seem to last longer as well. Dark Riku however has a Jump Dash that doesn't appear to have any form of invincibility frames. While the dash itself goes very far and is great for dodging, the lack of i-frames make it really bad against some bosses and attacks. The best way to make use of this Dash is to wait for the boss to jump or use an attack with a slow startup and dash in for an ambush. There are some bosses that seem like their unable to play cards if they are being hit from behind.
