Hello again! I'm rapid-firing this content out so we can pretend my channel doesn't die every other month. Are you pretending with me? Perfect. So, here I have something I've been working on in KH2FM for a while now. This utilizes the Mickey rescue sequence that Kingdom Hearts II normally throws out, and I've thrown together a BBS Ventus model and moveset with BBS animations for the game to load in instead.
It took a lot of trial and error for some things because KH2FM is a game you must manipulate very carefully, but I ultimately figured out that you can not only replace Mickey in Kingdom Hearts II, you can even overlay different moveset properties on to the character. In other words, you can put something like KH2FM's Anti-Form's properties on to the character, allowing for a Square combo, increased movement speed, and access to a different attack tree. Normally, KH2FM's Mickey only has maybe four or five attacks, and they all carry him into the air. With Kingdom Hearts II's Anti-Form properties overlaid, however, Ventus now has four ground and four air attacks, along with the special KH2FM Mickey capabilities like Pearl (a Square ability that you can activate on the ground at any time) and D-Charge (a Triangle ability that you can activate on the ground at any time).
So, what's the use of this in Kingdom Hearts II? Well for one, it looks cool and it's fun, duh. But realistically, Mickey is just not that fun to use in this game. He's "floaty", and not in the Kingdom Hearts II Final Form Sora salvageable way with good frame data or options to get to the ground safely. He's "floaty" in the BBS way where he's stuck in the air and all his frame data is mediocre to the point where your only option is to pray for an opening instead of making one yourself. Even worse though, when you do attack, you're automatically put into an unsafe position because you're thrown into the air with no defensive options. Modding the rescues like this can make an otherwise underwhelming mechanic into something exciting! Additionally, with how much control you can exert over this game, you could even make him stronger later in the game or swap him out for someone else.
Another thing to mention is aesthetically, it's just kind of interesting. You have text prompts to modify, a changed Command Menu you can customize for whomever you swap in, and it's not too difficult to make in comparison to a massive playable character that lasts for the entire mod. Speaking of aesthetics, a huge thank you to Tomk1004 for that custom Command Menu, Disgustor for giving me the actual BBS Ventus model and animations, Hennykage for the HD HUD, and Raizel No XIII for helping with the PAX file because I was too lazy to start the moveset on my own.
Beyond that, I've been trying to get better at mixing music for the KH2FM Aqua Mod, but I admittedly just don't have the best VSTs and instruments, and I'm not very good at it to begin with. Still, hopefully you like what I threw together for this video! I had made the song for a boss fight for Project Aqua initially, but I wound up feeling like something else fit better. Maybe it'll see some actual use in an event, but if not, you'll be able to activate the song with the custom music tool like everything else.
Alright, that's everything! I'm enjoying writing these little... I guess developer notes? Let me know if you enjoy reading them and I'll make more.
