What would be the point of thinking of making Sally Acorn Gay?

I mean, even if you're (Ian Flynn) kidding or not, what would be the reason behind it? What?, So you could avoid the SonSal shipping debate, or make history?
And who would you put her with? Nicole? Again Why?

But even if Ian was considering and if not considering the idea, and let's say Sega said yes, one thing to point out, is this wouldn't be the first time a major comic publisher did this.

Remember DC Comic did it with BatWoman in the NEW 52, and Marvel had ICEMAN come out, and those were characters with long standing histories, despite different incarnations throughout the decades, that showed up til those points, both were straight.

The concern I have would be how and when it would be realeved, or even hinted and with who, Nicole or someone new or no one was expecting.
