Here's a longplay by myself and my good friend Junior from The VG Bros of Return of Double Dragon for the Super Famicom.

I was Bimmy, and Junior was Jimmy.

We chose this version over the international release "Super Double Dragon" for several reasons. It has better game mechanics, a more powerful hurricane kick, and two additional final boss stages, along with a difficulty option. We chose easy because it limits the number of times enemies continue blocking your attacks and unleash overpowered attacks, therefore making the game more fun to play.

We used secret methods to alter the stages' music in places to be a little closer to the version of the game Technos tried to make before being shut down. The music changes are:

1. The Title Screen now has the Cut-Scene music.
(This music would have been used during in-game cut-scenes, which never made it to the final game. It was used as the title screen of the Overseas version of the game, and went unused in the Japanese version. We added it back in because the Double Dragon Theme appears again in the Japanese version as the final boss room music)

2. Mission 2 now has the Duke's Trap music.
(This piece was meant for a later scene in the game that never made it to the final release. It was used as the Mission 1 theme for the Overseas version, and Mission 4 in the Japanese version. I felt it suited the Airport environment better than the one which appeared in both versions)

3. Mission 4 now has its intended music.
(This music is heard in Mission 6 for the Overseas and Japanese versions of the game. It was intended for Mission 4, so we added it back in)

4. Mission 6 now has its intended music.
(Although this fan favourite piece has long been associated with Mission 4 in the overseas version, it was meant to go here, so we fixed that)

5. Mission 7 now has the Duke's Theme music.
(In the intended version of the game, this piece would appear when you fight Duke in the final boss rush stage. Although the track was completed and appears in the Japanese version's soundtrack, it doesn't appear anywhere in the main game. So we added it here to create a sense of suspense for the penultimate stage)

The music commonly heard in Mission 2 goes unused in this longplay. It was meant to be for the second section of Mission 7. The final Japanese version is coded to play just one tune between both sections, so we couldn't add it back in to its rightful stage, so sadly we abandoned it for this run)

Still, I hope you enjoy this. The music placements might be an acquired taste to some of you, but Junior and I hope most of you will find it just that bit closer to the version of Return of Double Dragon that Muneki Ebinuma and Atsuyushi Nishizawa wanted to make.

Enjoy!
