Blimey, it's been a while since I did one of these, so here we go.

Bart versus the Space Mutants for the Sega Master System is beyond doubt the best port of the platform game where you play as Bart Simpson, on a mission to stop a gang of space mutants from taking over Springfield.

While not the most well known, this version of the game trumps the NES and Mega Drive/Genesis ports of the game in many ways.

The music is the same as the Mega Drive / Genesis version, but the chiptune has a better tone here than on that version. The music is quiet, and sets the tone for the kind of game you're playing. It's hard to describe, but it's something I really like about the music here.

The graphics are nice and colourful. Everything looks more lively and true to Simpson life. Although the NPCs (excepting the Simpson family and bosses) are generic characters instead of random ones from the show like the NES version, they're all drawn well and don't stick out like sore thumbs compared to the recognisable ones.

The controls. Oh, yes, the controls. While you still need to press both buttons to perform a super jump like the other ports, here they've been modified so that they're tight and responsive. No more needless deaths from the game not recognising the super jump command like the other games; here, when you try to do a super jump, you will ALWAYS perform the super jump without fail.

Overall, if you're ever gonna play Bart vs the Space Mutants, THIS version is the one to play. It's tight controls, colourful graphics, catchy music and fun gameplay layout make it a real hidden gem on the Master System, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
