Data-Sora enters a data version of Castle Oblivion. He has meetings with the mysterious cloaked man, as well as various figures from Sora's memories. Like the real Sora did, Data-Sora uses World Cards to traverse the castle. One notable feature of this incarnation of Castle Oblivion is that the White Rooms do not change form completely; the design remains like the rest of the castle, although the shape of the room differs. Pictures of areas from the worlds are displayed on the walls. Near the end of the story, he meets Data-Naminé, who reveals Sora's nature as the "Key that connects everything" through his ties with herself, Roxas, Axel, and Xion. Furthermore she tells Data-Sora about Terra, Ventus, and Aqua who are the ones referred to in the message and need his help. Mickey bids farewell to Data-Sora and promises Data-Naminé that he will inform the real Sora of this.
Mickey promptly sends Sora a bottled letter. Back at Destiny Islands, Sora takes the parchment out of the bottle, and reads Mickey's message with Riku and Kairi.
Sometime later, Mickey informs Yen Sid that they are close to locating Ventus's heart and have only to find Terra. However, Yen Sid delivers the shocking news that Xehanort has been revived due to the destruction of both Ansem and Xemnas at the hands of Sora, which will ultimately lead to Master Xehanort's revival. Realizing that not just a "single" Xehanort has returned, Yen Sid orders Mickey to summon Sora and Riku before him to undertake a Mark of Mastery exam in order to become full-fledged Keyblade Masters for their imminent clash with Master Xehanort.
In Ansem's computer room, Braig, Dilan, Even, Aeleus, Ienzo, Isa, and Lea return to their human forms as a result of the destruction of both their Heartless and Nobodies. Everyone except Braig is unconscious; Braig speaks to Young Xehanort and deduces that the absence of Master Xehanort despite Xemnas's destruction means that the elderly Keyblade Master has already put his plans into action. Braig is unsure of Master Xehanort's intentions, and Young Xehanort tells his accomplice that Keyblades are passed down by their wielders to their apprentices from generation to generation. Xehanort emphasizes the importance of the Keyblade that he will wield one day, and knowing that the weapon is somehow connected to the Keyblade War, Braig decides to accomplish his own goals. He contemplates who to take along with him, and Xehanort begins to speak Saïx's name.
