This is probably one of the most epic quests in the game, where you break the years long siege of Mel Senshir and defeat the Greater Niskaru Balor in a climatic boss battle. I did a satisfying amount of damage with my Tempest, if I was playing on a lower difficulty I might have even one shot him. Before sailing to Mel Senshir I shop around for lockpicks as I'm running low and I don't want to go into a new quest unprepared. To skip straight to the Mel Senshir journey go to 12:30.
Completing the quest earns me a gold trophy and another new twist of fate "Siegebreaker" with a not be sniffed at 6% damage bonus. I also hit level 33 and upgrade Smolder for a big chunk of extra burning damage. For finesse I get Frost Trap, which does little damage and won't be used much but is needed for a certain trophy. Thanks to a trainer in Mel Senshir I'm able to max out blacksmithing, so most of the post quest footage is me experimenting with the blacksmith forge. I even go off to buy some new equipment purely for the purposes of salvaging it, but I discover that salvaging equipment is a pretty random affair with no guarantees on what you'll get. I end up making some new robes, which boost my armor and more importantly my lightning damage, although it does mean I Iose some mana and health regen, not a problem at this stage in the game as I'd sooner have the damage. Most of the components I have can't make anything better than what I've already got equipped, though I will be finding better ones during the course of the game and making some really good gear with them.
After that I head to Whitesone where a few more side quests await. I pick up the task "Dinner Time", a never ending hunt for rat meat, which I'll be doing at my convenience. I'll be finishing up a few more quests in Detyre before heading back to the unexplored pastures of Klurikon.
Anyway this epic point in the game seems a good enough time to have another short break from the series. I'll be starting a new playthrough tomorrow and Amalur should return in just over a week and a half.
