King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne (1985) PC Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A beginning to end playthrough of Sierra On-line's 1985 PC/Tandy game, King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne.
King's Quest II built significantly on the foundation laid by the landmark original. The graphics were better detailed, the landscapes were easier to traverse (despite the return of annoying staircases), and the puzzles were somewhat more logical (not having anything resembling that ridiculous Rumpelstiltskin riddle from the first). What makes this game interesting in hindsight is how it really laid the foundations of the kingdom that Daventry had become by the later games in the series.... and the Batmobile cameo was pretty amazing/ridiculous/LOL funny.
I played this for the first time as a kid on a Tandy 1000TX, and ancient 286/8mhz (I think, maybe 12?) with 640k of RAM. What made it particularly awesome though was the Tandy's 3-voice sound chip being used instead of the really grating PC speaker. For the sake of my own nostalgia, I played it using the Tandy color palette and sound chip, which makes for a fairly different presentation than the more standard EGA/PC Speaker combo allowed for.
