Review:

This was one of the first flight simulators I ever played on my old 386 SX-16 mhzs machine. I just saw this game in the computer store, and bought it. I didn't know if I would like it or not, but after I started to play it I really enjoyed playing it. This game really got me interested in flight simulators, and it was more realistic than any flight simulator I played on any previous console or computer system at the time. The one feature I love about this game is the scaling and zooming feature. Without those features, you couldn't have a good flight simulator because the aircraft would not move smoothly on the screen at all. You would see choppy movements, and not fluid movements. At the time, the I.B.M. PCs and PC clones had the best float point processors to take full advantage of flight simulator games like this. The console systems couldn't come close to the PCs when it came to simulation games like this.

The actual game play is quite simple. All you have to know is the very basics of flight training, like learning how to take off, navigating, and landing. The instrument panel is very simple compared to a modern day jet. You have the altimeter, fuel gauge, engine RPMs, and the speedometer. The dog fights are very interesting in World War 1 airplanes, because these aircraft are very slow but very agile. These aircraft had very low stall speeds, so you can perform some depth defying maneuvers with them. Dog fighting can be very interesting in these early planes Your only defense against other enemy aircraft are your machine guns. The missions in the game are mostly supporting ground offensives, escorting bombers, shooting down observation balloons, bombing depots, and attacking enemy air bases. After you finish a mission, you will get to read about real events that happened during the 1st World War, like the major offensives that made history, or your base would have to move because that area was captured by enemy ground forces. Over all, I thought this game was very good, and I am glad I got to play this game again after 22 years.
