Kondraty Ryleev - To the Favorite (Imitation of Persius' Satire "To Rubellius") | Poetry
I'm reading Kondraty Ryleev's poem "To the Upstart" ("To the Favorite") - imitation of Persius' Satire "To Rubellius" to the music Mini Vandals - Vespers on the Shore.
This poem was written in 1820. It is a vivid satire on the temporary workers - people who achieved high positions thanks to flattery and intrigue, and not personal merit. Kondraty Ryleyev harshly criticizes them for meanness, treachery and abuse of power, emphasizing that the true value of a person is determined not by his status, but by his personal qualities and virtues.
This is a call for justice and honesty, an expression of hope for the emergence of a leader capable of freeing the country from the tyranny of the temporary workers.
Also I suggest paying attention to the translation of the poem into English. This time I tried maintaining rhythm and rhyme. And ChatGPT helped me with this. :)
