Alexander Griboyedov - Woe from Wit - That's it, you are all proud! (Famusov's monologue) | Poetry
I'm reading the fragment of Famusov's monologue "That's it, you are all proud!" from Alexander Griboyedov's comedy in verse "Woe from Wit" to the music Huma-Huma - Pachabelly.
This monologue is a satirical depiction of the mores of the 18th-century noble society, contrasting with the ideals of the new generation. It reveals the essence of Famusov's worldview and his attitude to the moral and social values of the past. Famusov admires the lifestyle of the older generation, where servility, ostentatious piety and the ability to earn the favor of the powerful were considered the key to success and well-being. Using the example of Uncle Maxim Petrovich, the hero extols cunning and dexterity, which allow one to benefit from the most humiliating situations.
Also I suggest paying attention to the translation of the poem into English. This time I tried maintaining rhythm and rhyme. And ChatGPT helped me with this. :)
