Koneko Monogatari - The Adventures of Chatran. All signs point to it actually being an adaptation of Milo and Otis. It seems that film's original title -was- Koneko Monogarati or Kitten's Story.

Anyways, this game is pretty decent. You have very few ways of actually harming an enemy. Normally, you drop eggs on their head, but if you find four lettered eggs, you can summon Otis.

Here comes the dog, strong and brave! WOOF!

While Otis can harm Milo (he is a rough and tumble puppy I guess) he will also destroy any enemies in his path until he falls into a pit.

I like how Milo puts his paw over his eye when Otis fell in the pit. This can be interpreted as slapping his head at Otis' stubborn charge forward or crying at the disappearance of his head. That is, depending onw hether or not you want analyze this game for such things - ha.
