Krack The Hack is a 2019 rom hack made by Daizo Dee Von (me!) and Mellonpizza focusing on a recently-transformed Koopa named "Krack" in search of keys to free his entire army from Bowser. It consists of 14 stages; nine in the main game, two that can be unlocked, and three in the postgame. Most levels has a certain amount of keys that are required to be collected, so they have a different scale of non-linearity. Each level also has both secret moons and achievements, the latter requiring the player to preform something very specific in order to achieve them.
This level's main purpose is to teach you all of the jank the "Thwomp" enemy has when it comes to object detection, like the fact the enemy only smashes on the left side despite it being two tiles wide. This level also loosely introduces the upside down railing blocks, which the SMW community calls them "Tile 1F0" for it's weird properties of letting enemies "get stuck in a state of movement" while the player does not. Together you get a level that's...alright. To be honest it doesn't do much; I worked with what I could with the gimmick at hand.
A bit of trivia for you, both this and Kastle Keytastrophe were levels built after "King Bowser's Keep" because I wanted to introduce a few of the slightly-harder mechanics to the player beforehand. Though you can DEFINITELY beat the final level without these two levels, it's a way to be more familiar with everything at hand (thus they are optional).
Now what makes this level slightly infamous...is it's moon. Playing the same level twice to get the achievement? Certainly better than "The VIP Machine", which is "essentially" randomized. I still like how evil this is, but the amount of work to get to it is where the ball was admittedly dropped.
If you don't get why it's called "The VIP Machine", this is a reference to a stage in the japanese collab hack "VIP & Wall MIX 4" where there are at least 4 of these machines in a ghost house...one of which is an RNG flopping fish! Best part is you can't fail most of them, unlike here where you're not necessarily forced to die if you fail.
