What would it be like if Nintendo did a brand new update to Super Mario World for it's 30th Anniversary? Not only create the most definitive version with all the bells and whistles of the other ports, but also include a lot of extras and even a new "Hard Mode"? LadiesMan217 attempts to answer this question with an SMW ROM Hack! Is it enough to change up SMW, or was it perfect how it was back in 1991? Let's find out!

In today's episode we really just begin playing the game, already getting a taste of what Hard Mode offers in terms of challenge. The jist is SMW: 30th Anniversary removes the item box, doesn't allow Mario to earn a checkpoint powerup, and you revert to small no matter what powerup state you're in (if you're confused, this hack added the "big then small" system for normal mode). Oh, and there are variants of most enemies that are ready to give you a rough time.

Already this is a really cool little mod to the default SMW experience. Hacks like these used to be rejected because they were "blatant edits" of original SMW hacks/levels. Leave it to this and "Sprites are 1derful" to break the mold.
