This video is about the medieval period, sources of information of the medieval period.

History is generally divided into three periods the ancient, the medieval and the modern. In europe the period the period from 5th to 15th century CE known as the medieval period. In India the period from 8th to 18th century CE marks the beginning and the end of medieval period. During this period several important changes took place in the social economic and the political structures of Europe, America and Asia. During this period Indian culture was highly influenced by changes that took place in other countries.
Sources of Information- Literature and Archaeological findings:-
Literature:-1. Religious work
2. Commentaries based on Purans, Smrities etc.
3. Non- Religious works based on medicine, Astronomy, Dramas, Stories and other literature.
4. The autobiographies, orders of rulers and letters written during that period. For eg:- Prithviraj raso written by Chand Bardai
5. Muslim rulers encouraged the writing of historical accounts. Eg; Tahqiq-i-hind, Al-Biruni, Ain-i-Akbari(Abul Fazal)
6. The travel account of foreign travellers like Ibn- Battutah, Marco Polo and Bernier.
7. Manuscript by rulers on temples and monastries.
8. Historical records of that period exist in a variety of language.


Archaeological fidings
1. Exavation of medievval towns, Sarais and villages alongwith paintings, monuments, Sculpture, Coins, Inscriptions etc also give us a lot of information about the different aspects of society and culture.
