Like Opinwood, the swamp is a large mazelike area with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. I know where we ultimately need to go, but first I want to check out some of the side areas in here. I begin by going to the right and making our way forward. It isn’t long before we meet another Boglyte, though, and he’s got friends—while we’re engaging this one, two more come up behind us and starts attacking! I focus on quickly eliminating the first Boglyte, then turn around and engage the others. Fortunately, we’re able to finish everyone off, and I rest our way to full health. Once that’s done, I head down a path that has two torches facing each other; that’s a sign that we’re approaching one of the Gorkha residents of this swamp. Sure enough, after moving forward a ways and passing two more torches, we find ourselves at a hut. It’s occupied by a Gorkha witch doctor who offers to decipher riddles for us—and since the Draracle gave us a list of riddles, that’s exactly what we need. I pay the witch doctor 100 crowns to look at our scroll, and he interprets the Draracle’s “sweetness of our enemy” riddle for us. He says that probably means hornet nectar, and writes it down on our scroll for us.

I could have him read the other three riddles right now, but there’s actually a way to get a discount later, so I decide to leave. From there, I head east a little way and come to a fletcher’s shop. The Gorkha running it has two bows and a crossbow available, but I’m not actually wanting to buy anything here. Our inventory is filled to overflowing, and this is the perfect chance to start selling extra gear. I begin the process of unloading, and we make LOTS of money. When it’s over, we’ve gone from 393 crowns to 1234 crowns! And more importantly, we now have lots of open space in our inventory to pick up additional items. I spend a minute organizing our depleted inventory, and then head to the western end of the swamp. There’s a chest containing some great items in that area, and we now have the space to claim them. I head over to the first one and after lockpicking it open, we claim the Axe Slitter and the Duble Ring. The axe isn’t good for much except selling for cash, but the Duble Ring makes the wearer recover health points faster. There’s actually a third item in there, but we’re interrupted by a Boglyte, so I switch my focus to dispatching him. After he’s defeated, I equip Michael with the Duble Ring and get the last item from the chest, a Salve. With that done, I head into a small cul-de-sac and find the Staff Beater, which I pick up as well.

At this point, I decide to get to business and head to our main destination. We’ll need to get to the far northern side of the map, and I begin heading in that direction. Naturally, there are plenty of Boglytes along the way, and we encounter one along the way. That wouldn’t be so bad, except a second one attacks from another direction and leaves us surrounded. Still, we win the fight and continue forward. We advance down the path, defeat yet another Boglyte without much trouble, and then approach our main destination. There are two Boglytes here, one right in fromt of us and another behind him, but once again we defeat all the opposition. Now it’s time for what we came for. I turn to find a Gorkha guard pointing his weapon at us, much like the one we encountered when we first entered the swamp. This one protects the chieftain of the Gorkha people, and orders us to remove our weapons before we can see the chieftain. I follow his instructions and throw all three of our equipped weapons on the ground, causing him to step back and let us pass. I head down the pathway and into the hut that serves as the chieftain’s residence, where we discover he has the Ruby of Truth! He explains that he captured it from the Orcs that attacked the swamp earlier, and he can tell from our expressions that we want it very badly. Not being stupid, he decides to take advantage of the situation to get something he wants. The chieftain tells us that “living sticks” have stolen a brass helmet of great importance to the Gorkha, and asks us to retrieve it from them. If we do so, he’ll give us the Ruby of Truth. We have some options here—we can agree to his request, attack him, or try to swipe the Ruby. Any option other than agreeing to his request, however, means that the merchants in the swamp will no longer trade with us, so it’s definitely in our interest to do what he wants. I agree to get the brass helmet for him.
