The first thing I do once we’re back in Gladstone Keep is remove all of Timothy’s equipped items. He’s going to leave the party very soon, and if he’s equipped with anything when that happens those items are gone forever. I decide to equip Michael with Timothy’s Leather Jerkin—it offers significantly better protection than the Shirt he’s currently wearing—but otherwise put the items in our inventory. Next, we’ll be seeing Victor to sell our extra items. On the way, I click on various items in the castle, but unlike at the start of the game Michael senses something’s wrong. He states “their usual vitality has disappeared” and “evil seems to permeate everything” in response to my clicks, a clear sign that danger is near. There’s nothing we can do about it for now, though, so I head over to Victor and clear out our extra gear. I end up selling two pairs of sandals, two maces, three Swarms, the axe Dominance, and Michael’s old shirt. By the time it’s over, we have 422 crowns in our inventory, which I’m quite happy with. From there, I head to the throne room. As at the start of the game, two soldiers standing guard allow us to pass and we head inside.

We’re greeted by a shocking cutscene. King Richard is slumped on his throne, with Scotia standing over him! He appears to have been poisoned—he’s dropped his chalice—and the evil witch gloats that now the kingdom is doomed. Dawn confronts the witch with her own magic, and rather impressively she’s able to drive our enemy off. King Richard is still out cold, though, and Dawn confirms that while he’s still alive Scotia’s poison is rapidly making it worse. In an effort to save his life, Dawn joins with Geron, Nathaniel, and a redheaded man we haven’t met yet to summon a magical blue shroud around the king’s body. This effectively puts him in suspended animation and prevents the poison from harming him any further, but it’s only a temporary solution. We need to actually find a cure for the poison, but nothing we have is effective against what Scotia used. Things look grim indeed, and we have to take some kind of action. The redheaded man, Paulson, announces that he’ll be leaving to scout out the Urbish Mines where Scotia found the mask. That’s something, but it won’t cure Richard. We’ve got to restore the king to health, and to do that Dawn assigns us to visit the Draracle.

The Draracle is one of the last remaining Ancients, a race of divine beings with enormous power. This one is noted for his clairvoyance, and people throughout the kingdom have gone to him for answers to pressing questions. Dawn believes that he can give us a cure for King Richard’s affliction, and she teams us up with her Thomgog apprentice Baccata to go ask him for one. Baccata replaces Timothy in our party, and he’ll be with us for the rest of the game. He’s a friendly and gentle type, despite his intimidating appearance, and is my personal favorite character in the Lands of Lore setting. As a Thomgog, Baccata also has two sets of arms, which makes him invaluable as a party member because he can wield two weapons and two shields at once. He’s currently wielding just one of each, but I intend to change that. I replace his Staff with Timothy’s old Rapier and equip his second hand with a Saber I didn’t sell earlier. In terms of armor, Baccata is currently wearing a Helm and wielding a Kite Shield, both of which I take from him and equip Timothy with. That leaves us with two unused Bucklers, both of which I give to Baccata. I’m now satisfied, and head outside the keep to look for the Draracle. Baccata already knows where we need to go, and once we reach the cave he uses a magical incantation to create an opening. In the next video, we’ll go inside and begin our search for the Draracle.
