Given that Kaiser Digos, Laias, and Laetitia are on your side it would be weird to have a life or death fight with Lance.


You do fight Lance, but it become apparent quite quickly that he's under Boser's influence. Defeating Boser frees Lance from his influence and the endings start pointing more towards good endings now.
