Game: Langrisser V
Platform: Saturn
Emulator: Bizhawk 2.6
Category: Any%
Time: 5:54:08 (timed from Start at the title screen to final Scenario Clear)

This is an Any% speedrun route for the Saturn version of Langrisser V. This was played on an emulator with a bunch of savestates, but I decided to keep the whole run from start to finish because I'm too lazy to cut out all the dialog. It's meant to be a video complement to my written notes, which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iLXqgmRCzX-REEqgm0rnCnCl6fGWew3imu_XcWCIBqw/edit?usp=sharing

As for the route itself, I initially thought a Sigma solo would be the way to go. It worked well for Landius in Langrisser IV, and Sigma's base stats are even more ridiculous. Problem is, the battle system change kind of nerfed the offensive power of archers (at least without Teleport). Because of that, Sigma's brute force approach becomes less useful as the game goes on.

While I was working on my initial route, I noticed that a FAQ mentioned that summons can cheat the judgment system. I decided to try it out with Lambda to see what would happen, and...yeah. Without a doubt, summons in this game are unbelievably broken. What you see here is a re-route that focuses on Lambda instead of Sigma. (In fact, Sigma barely does any work despite being the protagonist...)

Most of the specifics for this route are mentioned in the written notes (see above link). This route could definitely be tweaked in a few spots, so if you plan to pick this run up, you might not want to copy this completely. Most notably, I picked up the secret tile in Scenario 11. This was meant for a plan to summon Seraphim later, but I forgot that I didn't have a flier for the other necessary item.

By the way, Sigma strikes out with Lambda at the end of the game. Thanks to mashing through dialog boxes, Sigma is doomed to remain single forever. Choosing to speak to Alfred or Lanford instead would preserve his dignity, but speaking to Lambda is just the fastest option. :)
