5Baldur's Gate 3 Dev Wants To Stay Independent, Keeps It More Creative
Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, has expressed its desire to remain independent and has no current plans to be acquired.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios, acknowledged that the idea of being acquired by a larger company was flattering. However, he emphasized the strength of the company's independence, as it allows him to be deeply involved in the gameplay and make the final decisions. This independence enables them to focus on creating games with utmost dedication. Vincke's remarks came in response to rumors circulating on social media about potential acquisition targets for Microsoft, with Larian Studios and Sega being among them.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been busy finalizing its own acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Although the merger has received approval from the FTC and EU regulators, the CMA has yet to give its green light. Despite this, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have extended the merger agreement deadline to October.
Currently available on PC, Baldur's Gate 3 is set to release on PlayStation 5 on September 6. However, Larian Studios has announced that the Xbox version will be delayed as they are working to address hardware challenges associated with the Series S. The team aims to achieve feature parity between Series S and Series X, with split-screen local play being a primary focus.
