Le Mans 24 (Sega Model 3) - New 3D engine VS old (Supermodel Split Screen comparison)
I've mentioned before in an upload of Le Mans 24, using the new 3D rendered in Supermodel, just how much better the game's looking now. So I decided to make a split screen comparison between that video and an older one running the legacy 3D engine to highlight the improvements.
The old version is Supermodel 0.3 WIP - SVN 271, with an option turned on to use a fragment shader that got rid of some graphical issues that affected the game quite badly in early versions of Supermodel. The newer version, using the new 3D engine is Supermodel 0.3 SVN 494, which makes things look a whole lot nicer.
The old 3D engine does have specular lighting effects though which were not present in the new one (I believe they had been purposely disabled because they weren't working properly in some games). There have been quite a few newer Supermodel revisions since I originally uploaded the new 3D engine video, but I don't think specular lighting has been re-enabled yet.
I've waxed lyrical before about how I think Le Mans 24 is a bit of an underrated classic Sega arcade racer, I won't go into all the reasons again here, but suffice to say if you're a Sega racing nut you should definitely give it a try.
