I am using ubuntu 14.04 x64 I am using playonlinux 4.2.2 and using wine 1.7.33-LeagueOfLegends2
Please use proprietary drivers
Make sure that your pc is capable of running this game, before starting the installation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution on fixing store issue 08:02 A cording to @blastercheese you can fix the issue with
Installing Internet explorer 8
playonlinux click League of Legends, configure, install components, internet explorer 8 install..... ,then wine tab, configure wine, and make it use windows XP

Version 4.18 Note
Well I tested and found out that it works, but the installation period is a bit longer.
So if your download speed will drop to 0 KBps do not panic it means that it is scanning the files, here is a forum link that confirms above mentioned information. The solution is that you should be patient and slowly it will scan the lol files and you will be able to play this game.

Patch 6.15 notes

So i installed this version of the game on ubuntu 16.04 x64 with using wine 1.9.2-LeagueOfLegends5
The installation took few hours it is very slow to install so i will not recommend you to try to install this game on low end hardware, but i can say that it work and it worked even with open source amd graphics drivers.
Make sure to install this components as well
