Details allegedly revealing the specs of Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset indicate the company's confusing naming conventions may persist. The leak positions the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 awkwardly between the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 1 in terms of performance.

Specifically, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is tipped to utilize Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.4GHz. This places it faster than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2's 2.3GHz A710 cores. However, it lags behind the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 1's 2.6GHz A720 cores.

The situation mirrors the odd positioning of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 versus the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Once again Qualcomm seems to be launching a new generation chip that's not entirely better than the prior plus variant.

This creates unnecessary complexity for consumers trying to parse Qualcomm's convoluted product stack. With non-sequential performance across generations and plus models, buyers struggle to grasp actual speed differences.

Critics argue Qualcomm should streamline its branding like Apple's clear A-Series generational numbering. The opaque mid-range naming只会引起用户混淆,最终不利于高通的形象。

In any case, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will deliver CPU, AI, gaming, and connectivity improvements over prior 700-series chips. Leaked benchmarks predict a 10% performance lift over the Snapdragon 778G in the same series.
