This is my 5th lesson on how to play the Kinnor - the ancient Jewish Lyre, once played by King David, & by my very own, very ancient, VERY cool Levite ancestors...over 2000 years ago, in the Temple of Jerusalem!!

In this lesson, I shall teach all you "Levite Wannabes" out there, how to play the beautiful Shabbat Evening melody to "Shalom Aleichem"(Peace be Upon You):

Shalom aleichem malachei ha-shareit malachei elyon, mi-melech malchei ha-melachim Ha-Kadosh Baruch Hu.

Bo'achem le-shalom malachei ha-shalom malachei elyon, mi-melech malchei ha-melachim Ha-Kadosh Baruch Hu.

Barchuni le-shalom malachei ha-shalom malachei elyon, mi-melech malchei ha-melachim Ha-Kadosh Baruch Hu.

Tzeit'chem le-shalom malachei ha-shalom malachei elyon, mi-melech malchei ha-melachim Ha-Kadosh Baruch Hu.

The words to the song translate:

"Peace upon you, ministering angels, messengers of the Most High, of the Supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He.
Come in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the Supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He.
Bless me with peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the Supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He.
May your departure be in peace, messengers of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the Supreme King of Kings, the Holy One, blessed be He."

This ancient Shabbat melody is in the Ahava Raba mode - the mode also directly taken from the catorial singing in the Synagogue, and used in almost the entire Klezmer music reportoire...

This ancient Jewish scale has even more ancient origins - it can be heard in some of the ORIGINAL music from Biblical times, as deciphered by the late Suzanne Haik-Vantoura.

Some of this truly stunning ancient Biblical music, that was actually sang by the almost legendary Levitical Choir in the Temle of Jerusalem over 2000 years ago...(and to which almost an entire orchestra of Kinnor Lyres actually accompanied them!!), can ALSO be heard on Youtube! Check THIS out:

Fellow Youtuber, John Wheeler, is one of the leading authorities on the literally MONUMENTAL musical discovery of Suzanne Haik-Vantoura. He runs the Youtbe Channels "teamim" and "rakkav"...his "teamim" Youtube Channel is dedicated to bringing back to the world, the magnificant music of the Temple of Jerusalem - the music which Jesus himself must once have heard, and which has not been heard for almost 2000 years, since the detruction of the Jewish Temple by the Romans under Titus, in 70AD...CHECK IT OUT!!!

The Kinnor Lyre is tuned here to the Ahava Raba mode: DE(tonic)FG#ABCDEF. Should anyone out there have immense difficulty deciphereing my awful scouse accent, here are all the notes of the melody:

E,CBAA,G#ABAG#FE,EG#G#G#,AG#ACB,high E,E,CBAG#AFG#ABAG#FE,EDAG#FEDE.

C high E high E high E high E high E,DCBCD high E,CBABC high E B,BCDDDD,D high F high E DCBA low E ABCBAG#A

(Oy Vey! I just realized in my talk, that I said F# - ALL the Fs in this tune are played natural!)
