Learn to Do the Strut--Paul Whiteman and His Orch., 1924 VIDEO
From 1/11/1924, an Irving Berlin gem rendered in grand style by Paul Whiteman’s orchestra. Henry Busse provides a corny but effective muted trumpet solo. Nothing on par with his marvelous “Hot Lips” solo, but effectively jazzy. This sounds, for all the world, like a Grofe arrangement, though I can’t find confirmation of same. The intro and outro are pure Grofe, so if this isn’t Ferde, it’s someone stealing his act.
