Description: Japanese
What is Kanji?
-a system of Japanese writing using Chinese characters.
What is kanji used for?
Kanji in Japanese are used to write nouns, the stems of verbs and adjectives, and some adverbs, as well as many common Japanese names and place names. They represent meanings or ideas rather than sounds, unlike the other writing systems (hiragana and katakana) which are based on syllables. Kanji help with word separation in Japanese, which doesn't have spaces between words.
What is the difference between Japanese and kanji?
Kana are the cursive and print alphabet of Japanese, a phonetic syllabary system, while kanji are Japanese symbol representing entire words. Kanji symbols can stand alone, or be combined with other kanji or kana to create more words, ideas, or even turn kanji into a verb.

What is onyomi and kunyomi?
In Japanese, On'yomi (音読み) refers to readings of kanji characters that are derived from their original Chinese pronunciation. Kunyomi (訓読み), on the other hand, are the native Japanese pronunciations of those same kanji. On'yomi is generally used in compound words and technical terms, while Kunyomi is used for simple, singular words, including most verbs.
On'yomi:
Origin: Derived from Chinese pronunciations of the kanji characters.
Usage: Frequently used in compound words and technical terms.
Example: The kanji for "water" (水) has the on'yomi reading "sui" (すい).
Kunyomi:
Origin: Native Japanese pronunciations of kanji.
Usage: Used for simple, singular words, verbs, and in many Japanese names.
Example: The kanji for "water" (水) has the kunyomi reading "mizu" (水
