It is the opening day of "World Race 24", the most dangerous rally in the world. Daredevils are coming for the rally to get the award of US$1,000,000. Fred wonders to himself "What type of cars is most easy-driving for me?" Then Fred challenges the race.

Fred and Snake are two talented racers that compete to become famous in the world of motor sports, racing in nine roads: Capital, Netwood Forest, Coral Sea, Big Cave Tunnel, Ruins Desert, Million Valley, Thunder Road, Marine Snow Pipeway, and Sky City.

LED Storm is a vertically scrolling driving and fighting game, often compared to Bump 'n' Jump or Spy Hunter.
The view is from above and the player controls a vehicle that can move horizontally across the screen, change speed and make big jumps, like in Bump 'n' Jump, to avoid obstacles and crush enemy vehicles. The screen also scrolls horizontally depending on lateral movements, although the vehicle is always facing upwards.

Capcom produced at least two versions of the arcade with different introductory sequences and major differences in gameplay.
The most common one is this entitled LED Storm or Mad Gear, it gives the possibility at the beginning of the game to choose between three types of vehicles with slightly different performances: Formula 1 cars, Porsche 959 and trucks.

9 levels are faced through urban or natural landscapes, along elevated roads, dirt tracks, wild valleys.
The routes include precipices, crossroads, obstacles, and breaks in overpasses that can only be overcome by jumping.
There are many enemy vehicles to avoid, most of which can be eliminated by jumping on them, but also particular enemies such as huge indestructible trucks, a car with similar capabilities to yours, mine releases and bikers that cling to the vehicle slowing it and must be shaken off.

The player's vehicle has an energy bar, renewed at the beginning of each level, which progressively decreases over time.
Collisions and various accidents cause slowdowns and waste of time and energy.
If the car is destroyed, for example by falling from an overpass, it is immediately replaced without the energy being renewed. The game only ends if you run out of energy before completing a level.

For this it is necessary to keep a high speed and collect energy in the form of bonuses along the way.
Other power-ups grant extra points or a dome that gives temporary invincibility. Many bonuses are suspended in the air and can only be obtained by jumping. In the computer versions you can also collect cans that provide a letter of the word "ENERGY", which once completed gives a very large recharge of energy.

It is possibile to configure the game to allow two players in the same race.
