What makes me try?

I wonder why, if I know it’s a lie,
it doesn’t make it alright.
So why, why should I mind?
I want to defend their way of life,
but I run from their fight.
Do I really decide?
I only seem to choose from more chains.
TIME
I’m not a child,
though still independent, sure, and while,
